PEARLS OF DALMATIAN HINTERLAND
After a pleasant drive we arrive at the Dalmatian hinterland town of Sinj, known as town of “Gospa sinjska” and knights “Alkari”. The entire region of Sinj and the city itself is very rich in history. A period that was particularly marked was a medieval battle that took place in the time when local people with the help of Lady of Sinj wrote the most glorious pages of their history.
We will go to the centre of Sinj, to the sanctuary of Virgin Mary and the Museum of Alka. You will experience the splendour and pride of knight Alkar, a tradition that is still alive today in this area. A ride through Dalmatian hinterland will take us to Imotski, a town situated above the Blue and Red Lakes, karst phenomena which many legends are connected with.
We will visit Topana, a fortress from which the range of the bullet cannon determined the boundary of the Austro Hungarian Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire long ago. The border stands now days as a mark from past times. Filled with experience from the rich cultural, historical and natural heritage we continue our adventure in the centre of Imotski where you will enjoy traditional Dalmatian food.
On our way to Split we will stop in Bisko, a village with one of the largest collections of tombstones, UNESCO-protected cultural monuments, unknown to the general public, beautiful like Stonehenge in England. We will continue with a pleasant drive to Split.
