PATHS OF CROATIANS KINGS
The Croats settled from the area of the river Drava to the Adriatic Sea during the great migration in the seventh century. It was founded by two principalities, Maritime and Pannonian, which was united by mighty King Tomislav in the ninth century. Just in middle Dalmatia Croats from that period had their palaces in multiple locations. Tracing the Croatian kings we will start from Split, the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, where there are exposed to many relics of that time. Then we will go to Klis, essential Dalmatia fortress in the possession of guaranteed power over a wide area, until recent times.
We will go to the Salona, the ancient capital, which is in the midst of historic turmoil has become the cradle of Christianity on the east coast. Near the once capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia, the Croats after populating founded a new town Solin, at the island on the mouth of the river Jadro, known as Virgin Mary island. At its edge is the church in which the sarcophagus, the people’s favorite, Queen Jelena.
Not far from Virgin Mary Island in the riverbed we will see the coronation basilica of the Croatian King Zvonimir, known as Šuplja Crkva. Our adventure trail of Croatian kings will end up in a medieval mill where you will enjoy the traditional Dalmatian specialities.
