SALONA, GAŠPINA’S MILL AND HOLLOW CHURCH
Just three kilometres from the centre of Split between the gentle slopes of Kozjak and the mouth of the river Jadro lies the ancient lost city Salona.
2000 years ago, the brightest and richest city on this side of the Adriatic, we can now explore visiting the foundations of the old basilica, baths, palaces and amphitheatre.
Salona best shows how biting the ravages of time and you can imagine an ancient Roman buildings, people and events that are now part of the glorious history. With our guide will take you to the entire site, and will then visit Gašpine mill, a medieval complex that was until modern times was extremely important for the entire surrounding area.
In the beautiful surroundings of the mill, the junction of Dalmatian architecture in stone, tame vegetation and pleasant forest river sail you’ll be served with a traditional food of this area. You will enjoy the wonderful tastes and smells of local food and wine. On the way back to Split we will visit the Šuplja Crkva, once a magnificent Romanesque building, now part of the current Rika.
